We tend to explain the difference between American and British/FCI shelties by stating that the standards are different, and I do this too, but in truth the standards are very close and we just have very different ideas of a) whether the interpretation of the sheltie standard should follow the interpretation of the collie standard and b) what is "wedge" and "almond"

#uk/fci standard makes 0 collie mentions #ack standard intro is... about collies #and also... not particularly accurate #like obvs im biased but sometimes i'll read a writeup on the sheltie head by an AKC person and be like hmm yeah sure why not #and then the photo added as a correct illustration is just.... insane to me #“an excellent head that tapers slightly to a blunt wedge. parallell planes and a slight but definite stop”#and then they add a photo of a tube #like even if we agree that the sheltie should resemble a collie of SOME era #you'd be hard fuckin pressed to find any historical resemblance to the clunkier akc heads in literally either breed #until the modern iteration #and even then you can *pretty much* pinpoint the generation breeders decided it should be That #and im not saying fci is the Original either because the island type died out and the mainland type is the remaining one #but theres #a lot going on there
